I see dead people walking around me all the time. No, I’m not talking about zombies for all of you Walking Dead fans. I’m talking about people who should be alive but are really dead. I’m also talking about those people who, though they were dead, are now alive. I guess you could say because of the Bible I see zombies around me all the time.

Already Dead

You see the book of Hebrews teaches us that unless someone’s blood has been shed we are dead in our trespasses sins. It’s interesting that it uses the idea of shedding blood because the ancient Jews knew that the life of an animal is in its blood. Therefore, when the Bible says that blood must be shed, it’s talking about death. Hebrews says without death our sins cannot be forgiven. So one of the reasons I see zombies around me all the time is because I see people that should be alive who are really dead because the are trying to find peace with God through something other than Jesus’ death for them. Most often I see people who are trying to be good enough to earn forgiveness for their sins. And according to the path they are just as dead as someone who could care less about God or his forgiveness.

But then I also have a chance to see people who should be dead but are really alive. These, of course, are the people that though they were dead in their trespasses and sins have now been made alive through the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ followers have conquered the grave by dying to self and living for Jesus.

Already living the eternal life

Hebrews tells us that death isn’t the end; it’s the beginning- the beginning of your eternal destiny. Hebrews 9:27 says that it is appointed for each of us to die once and after our death comes judgment. That’s why Jesus’ followers have already started living their eternal life even while we are still here on Earth. That eternal life started the moment they confessed faith in Jesus. Those that reject Jesus are already living under a death sentence. Meaning that they are already destined for death- they just don’t know yet.

I guess this is why there is such a great celebration when someone confesses faith in Jesus Christ. It should be a celebration because at that moment a soul is transferred from death to life!
